Borrowing Privileges

Faculty, Students and Staff

All current Stony Brook University faculty, students and staff have Health Sciences Library borrowing privileges.

Faculty, students and staff need to present a valid Stony Brook University ID card at the Circulation Desk to borrow library materials.

  • Faculty - maximum 25 regular loans
  • Students - maximum 20 regular loans
  • Staff - maximum 6 regular loans
  • Faculty, Students, Staff - maximum 2 Reserve items
  • Faculty, Students, Staff - Electronic resource access

Health Sciences and Medical School Alumni

Alumni of the Stony Brook Health Sciences and the Stony Brook Medical Center School of Medicine are eligible for borrowing privileges.

Health Sciences Center and Medical School alumni receive library borrowing privileges by having an alumni card. To obtain an alumni card, please

call the Alumni Office at 631-632-6330.

The card must be presented at the Health Sciences Library Circulation Desk time of application for borrowing privileges.  Use consists of:

  • Maximum 6 regular loans
  • No reserve materials access
  • No electronic resource access  

Local Health Care Providers

Health care professionals who work and live in Nassau or Suffolk counties are eligible for borrowing privileges.

Health care professionals need to present the following to acquire borrowing privileges:

  • Proof of Residence (e.g. license or bill with home address)
  • Proof of Employment (e.g. employee ID card or bill with business address)
  • A Health Sciences Library card will be issued when credentials are presented and the application process is complete.
  • maximum 6 regular loans
  • no reserve materials access
  • no electronic resource access

Open Access

All current SUNY students and employees have borrowing privileges. SUNY students and employees need to present a current SUNY ID card.

  • Borrowing privileges valid for current semester only
  • maximum 6 regular loans

  • no electronic resource access
