Photocopy Services provides copiers for the public use throughout the Melville Library and the Library Branches. There are 13 copiers: 2 in the Central Reading Room, 3 in the Engineering and Science Library, 1 in the Music Library, 1 in Special Collections, 3 in the Photocopy Center located in the Third Floor Stacks Area, 1 in the Chemistry Library, 1 in the Math/Physics/Astronomy Library and 1 in the Marine and Atmospheric Science Information Center.

Copies are 10 ¢ per copy on the public use machines. All copiers reduce and enlarge.

Card Swipe units are also available for use with the copiers and web printers. These swipe units accept Campus I.D. cards. Money has to be placed into the patron’s account. This money can also be used for laundry, some vending machines on campus and some off campus eateries. If a patron does not have a campus I.D. card, a campus cash card can be purchased for $ 1.00, and then money will need to be placed into the card account to use the copiers and web printers, by use of an Autoloader. Autoloaders are located in two areas in the Melville Library. One is located in the Central Reading Room on the first floor and the other is located in the Main Circulation Area on the third floor. There are also other Cash to Account machines, used to add money on cards, located throughout the east and west campus.

For further information about the Autoloaders, Cash to Account machine locations and off campus eateries that accept these funds, go to F.S.A.’s (Faculty Student Association) web site.

The swipe units are easy to use. Swipe the card through the swipe unit with the magnetic stripe facing down and to the right. Information appears on the screen and if there is any money on the card it shows how much is on the account. If there is no money left on the card, the screen will flash “insufficient funds,” and return to the normal screen (Date and Time on top line, “Please Swipe Card,” >> on bottom line). When the patron completes his/her copying, the red finish button must be pressed. This clears the unit for the next patron. If the patron does not press the finish button another patron can use the machine with the previous patron’s money. If there is no activity for 1 ½ minutes the screen returns to normal. Patrons should get accustomed to pressing the finish button when their copying is complete.

Faculty and Staff can use IFR accounts or Grant money to add money to an account. Call 2-5326 and talk to Anthony Gentile for further instructions. If there is a malfunction with a card swipe unit call Photocopy Services at 2-7138 for assistance. If there is a problem with the Autoloader, call F.S.A. at 2-5326 for help.

Photocopy Services is the only authorized area in the Library system that accepts payment for Library Fines. For further information about paying fines click here.
