Learning through different mediums can give you a whole new perspective on a topic. You might pick up on something from reading a newspaper article that you would not have from reading a fictional novel on the subject. The visual aspect of video can add a whole other dimension to education.
Kanopy is a video-streaming service available for free through Stony Brook University Libraries. Current and vintage movies, documentaries and film lessons are sorted into dozens of categories to browse through. Films can also be searched by title, subject or people.
A documentary on gender and and society can be used as evidence in a research paper or instructors can show their classes films on any number of subjects ranging from business to health to global studies. Students can also use the service to further interests outside of class and for entertainment purposes.
Kanopy is available with iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Chromecast and on your computer, tablet or mobile device!
